السيرة الذاتية
سماحة الشيخ قيس الخزعلي
His Family and Upbringing:
His Eminence Sheikh Qais bin Hadi bin Sayyid bin Hassan Al-Abd Al-Aal Al-Hurayshawi Al-Khazali was born on Thursday, Jumada al-Awwal 30, 1394 AH, corresponding to June 20, 1974 AD, in Al-Sadr City, Baghdad — the stronghold of the mujahideen and revolutionaries. He grew up there, completed his primary and secondary studies in Baghdad, and then studied in the Department of Geology at the College of Science, University of Baghdad.
A Turning Point:
In the year 1414 AH / 1994 AD, Sheikh Qais Al-Khazali was discussing with a fellow university student the reason behind the adherence of the Shi’a Imami scholars to delaying the Maghrib (sunset) prayer by about twelve minutes after the call to prayer (Adhan). These discussions and inquiries led him to write an academic scientific research paper in which he presented an explanation and reasoning for this delay. He then decided to travel to the holy city of Najaf — home of the noble Hawza (seminary) — to meet its scholars and present his findings to them.
His Religious Scholarly Education:
From the moment Sheikh Al-Khazali began his seminary studies in Najaf, residing at the School of Imam Al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), he immersed himself in the sciences of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), drawing wisdom from their teachings while living near the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him). He studied under the following scholars:
His Roles and Stations During the Era of the Martyr Sadr:
Sheikh Qais Al-Khazali was not an ordinary figure during the movement and revolution of the martyr Sayyid Muhammad Al-Sadr. He was relied upon for many critical duties and responsibilities. He was appointed Deputy Supervisor-General of the Hawza Schools in Najaf and served as a member of the Department of Religious Dues in the office of the martyr Sadr, alongside Sayyid Sultan Kalantar, Sayyid Muqtada Al-Sadr, and Sayyid Mustafa Al-Yaqubi.
The Stage of Islamic Resistance – A Living Reflection of the Martyr Sadr’s School:
After the battles of the Najaf uprising against the American occupation in September 2004, Sheikh Al-Khazali, together with fellow mujahideen from among the students of the martyr Sadr, established the nucleus of the Islamic Resistance Movement *Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq (The League of the Righteous)*. This movement fought the foreign occupation in Iraq, delivering severe and effective blows that weakened the occupying forces and hastened their humiliating withdrawal from the country.
