The Sadiqoon parliamentary announced on Tuesday that it has adopted a package of reform proposals aimed at supporting low-income retirees and has officially submitted them to the Prime Minister, demanding that they be implemented quickly in order to improve the living standards of this segment and alleviate their economic burdens.
In an official letter addressed to the Prime Minister, the bloc confirmed that the package was based on reform proposals submitted by university professor Ahmed Yahya Issa, after it had reviewed them and found them to be a practical and realistic vision that intersects with its orientations in supporting the most needy social groups, especially retirees who spent years of service in state institutions and many of whom face living and health challenges in light of receiving low retirement salaries that are not enough to cover basic needs.
The bloc explained that it is aware of the difficulty of making large increases to retirement salaries under the current financial circumstances, so the package included practical alternatives aimed at raising the standard of living of retirees by reducing expenses and providing opportunities to benefit from subsidized economic services, in order to achieve the desired effect without placing large additional burdens on the general budget.
The package included seven main points, including allocating a subsidized fuel quota for retirees through vouchers or an electronic card, granting customs and tax exemptions for importing one car every three years with controls to prevent trading, in addition to reducing the fees for basic services represented by electricity, water and municipality by no less than (50%).
The proposals also included exemptions and reduced government fees on documents, real estate registration, permits and licenses, launching a program to support medications for chronic and serious diseases through a health card, as well as supporting treatment and major surgeries in private hospitals at a rate where the state bears (50%) of the cost, and establishing a national fund to support retirees to finance the health and treatment programs included in the package.
The Sadiqoon parliamentary called on the relevant government authorities to study these proposals and adopt those that can be implemented according to the priorities and activation mechanisms attached, with the formation of a ministerial committee to supervise their implementation and follow up on the stages of their application.
The bloc stressed that ensuring justice for retirees is a national and moral obligation that reflects the state's loyalty to those who served it faithfully, affirming that activating this package would guarantee a more dignified and stable life for hundreds of thousands of retirees across the country.
