The Sadiqoon condemns the Kuwaiti attack on Iraqi fishermen and considers it a violation of sovereignty ... Demands for deterrent government measures.
The Sadiqoon parliamentary condemned on Saturday the attack by the Kuwaiti coast guard on a number of Iraqi fishermen, which resulted in the death of Iraqi fisherman Najm Abdullah Khalid, and the injury and detention of others, stressing that what happened represents an unacceptable attack that violates the sovereignty of Iraq and the dignity of its citizens.
In a statement, the bloc expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the martyr and the people of Al-Faw, stressing that Iraqi blood is a "red line" and that any attack targeting Iraqis or affecting the country's sovereignty and the dignity of its citizens is unacceptable.
The bloc affirmed that it is following with great interest the measures taken by the Iraqi government regarding this attack, demanding that its measures be strong and deterrent to prevent the recurrence of such violations in the future, and in a way that ensures respect for Iraqi territorial waters, protects the land of Iraq and the Iraqi citizen, and preserves the rights of fishermen who go out daily in search of livelihood and a decent living.
The Sadiqoon parliamentary also demanded that the Kuwaiti government issue an official apology to the Iraqi people and the family of the martyr, and work to put a final end to the recurrence of these violations, in accordance with the principles of good neighborliness and the provisions of international law.
The bloc announced that it will work to include the issue of repeated attacks on Iraqi fishermen on the agenda of the first upcoming sessions of the House of Representatives, with the aim of taking the necessary legislative and oversight measures to protect fishermen and defend Iraqi sovereignty.
In the same context, the bloc affirmed that the statements issued by Muhammad Abu Al-Eis regarding this issue included phrases that harm the reputation and dignity of the Kuwaiti people, not the political and governmental bodies, stressing that this proposal is rejected by the Sadiqoon, and does not represent its literature, which respects peoples in general, and appreciates human dignity regardless of the political positions of governments.
The bloc concluded its statement by praying for mercy for the martyr, a speedy recovery for the wounded, and that God protect Iraq and its people.
