The Sadiqoon parliamentary affirmed on Sunday that the American-Saudi aggression that targeted the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces represents a direct attack on the sovereignty of Iraq and its official military institutions, stressing that targeting the Popular Mobilization Forces cannot be dealt with as targeting an institution separate from the state, but rather it is an aggression against the Iraqi state and its sovereignty.
This came during a press conference held by the bloc in the House of Representatives building, during which it addressed the repercussions of the attack on the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces, and the violations and damages that accompanied it, stressing that the blood of the martyrs of the Popular Mobilization Forces is not numbers that are mentioned in statements, but rather requires a firm governmental position and holding those responsible for the attack accountable.
The bloc demanded that the Prime Minister, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and the relevant security leaders be hosted to discuss the circumstances of the aggression and to ascertain its details, in addition to opening a comprehensive parliamentary investigation into the American-Saudi aggression, and the extent of the violations and damages resulting from it.
The government also called for an urgent complaint to be filed with the UN Security Council, and for action to be taken on the Arab and Islamic tracks, as well as for the US and Saudi ambassadors to be summoned and given two official protest notes, stressing that Iraq is not an open arena for settling scores, and that its sovereignty is not a bargaining chip.
The Sadiqoon stressed that the blood of the martyrs will not be forgotten with silence or statements, affirming its continued commitment to taking the necessary political, legislative and legal measures regarding the attacks targeting the Popular Mobilization Forces and Iraqi state institutions.
On the legislative side, the bloc called for expediting the passage of the Service and Retirement Laws, in addition to completing the structure and legal organization of the Popular Mobilization Forces, stressing that the two Popular Mobilization Forces laws represent a national legislative entitlement that would fortify the institution and enhance its legal and constitutional status.
