The head of the Sadiqoon parliamentary, Uday Awad, announced on Sunday that the bloc will continue its efforts and coordination with the Speaker of Parliament and various political forces to expedite the inclusion of the Popular Mobilization Forces Law on the Parliament’s agenda, with the aim of proceeding with its legislation in the coming period.
Awad said during a press conference held inside the House of Representatives that the Popular Mobilization Forces Law represents a national and constitutional entitlement that guarantees the preservation of the rights of the fighters and enhances the status of this national institution that has made great sacrifices in defense of Iraq, its people and its holy sites, stressing the bloc’s commitment to proceeding towards the approval of the law in a way that guarantees institutional stability and the full rights of its members.
The head of the Sadiqoon parliamentary stressed the rejection of any attempts to delay or procrastinate the legislation of the Popular Mobilization Forces Law, stressing the continuation of efforts to expedite the inclusion of the law, along with the Service and Retirement Laws, on the agenda of the House of Representatives, and to proceed with completing the necessary legislative procedures for its approval, in a manner that represents a fulfillment of the sacrifices of the fighters and a guarantee of their rights.
In a separate context, Awad addressed the incident of the martyrdom of the Iraqi fishermen, stressing that the incident will not pass without severe accountability and real justice for the victims’ families, calling on the Iraqi government to take firm and practical measures, legally and diplomatically, to guarantee the rights of Iraq and its citizens, protect the fishermen and prevent the recurrence of attacks that affect national sovereignty.
He added that the rights of Iraqi fishermen and the sovereignty of Iraq are a red line, and we will not accept any transgression against them, offering his sincere condolences to the families of the martyred fishermen, and stressing that Iraqi blood will remain precious and protected.
Awad praised the government’s swift response in dismissing the officials who were found to be negligent in the fishermen’s incident, as well as the decision to consider the victims as martyrs, considering this an important step to guarantee the rights and privileges of their families.
He also stressed that the current government procedures do not negate the need to complete the investigations and uncover all the circumstances of the incident, calling for strengthening the available protection capabilities for fishermen and developing coordination between security and maritime authorities, stressing the importance of the continued oversight and legislative role of the Sadiqoon parliamentary to follow up on all parliamentary and legal procedures, and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that the families of the martyrs are given justice, in a way that preserves Iraqi blood and protects the rights of citizens.
