Dr. Laith al-Khazali, Assistant of the General Secretary of the Asaib Ahl al-Haq, confirmed on Tuesday that the issue of “restricting weapons” in Iraq is linked to a conflict between two contrasting visions; the first seeks to keep Iraq subject to foreign wills and American and Israeli security calculations, while the second is based on the principle of preserving national sovereignty and maintaining independent Iraqi decision-making away from any external influences.
Dr. Al-Khazali explained in a post on the “X” platform that talking about resistance is inseparable from the issue of the illegal foreign presence on Iraqi soil, indicating that this presence is rejected from both a national and constitutional standpoint, which makes resistance a legitimate right linked to defending Iraq’s sovereignty and independence, and not a file subject to political bargaining or blackmail.
He pointed out that any project proposed by an external will or passed under pressures that affect national decision-making will not be acceptable, denying what is being circulated regarding the existence of approvals or statements issued in this regard, and stressing that those claims are “baseless”.
Dr. Al-Khazali explained that dealing with this file can be done within the framework of a purely Iraqi national project, based on the vision of the religious authority and the decision of the coordinating framework, and aims to organize the file in a way that is consistent with the supreme interest of Iraq, and preserves the prestige of the state and its right to make its decision freely and independently, away from any external guardianship or dictates.
